What do you do if a snake bites you?

8.11.25
We’d just played a round of jungle trivia while we stopped mid hike at our favourite hidden piece of land.

“What do you do if a snake bites you?”

“Stay calm and identify the species” Rosie selects from multiple choice answers. Ding Ding Ding. Point to the kids.

Question two. Spell the name of the monkey you hear to the west.

They got this one right too. They return to their imaginary game. Their collection pile growing by the minute. Each piece essential to the game.

The howler monkey getting louder.
I sink into presence for a breath and then two and then creak, a twig snaps in the distance. I ponder survival. Jaguars. Snakes.

But then I hear my husbands reassurances in my mind. We’re good.

Even though said husband has since disappeared out of sight deep into the jungle. Captivated by something. Camera in his hand.

Besides some reading practice, this was school today.
